Okay. Oh, who's who's um coming down? No, but you are Councilman Scott. Okay. So, today, as always, first of all, welcome everyone to city hall in our beautiful council chambers. Um, as always before every meeting, we gather to acknowledge individuals, businesses, and organizations that make it a priority to positively impact our community and therefore the people of Corpus Christi. So, this morning, at large, Councilman uh Mark Scott will be assisting me in reading proclamations. The A team, we've got the A team. Here it is. So, first we have this beautiful group of ladies who are so well coordinated and they did send me a memo. So, I wore my pink. Um, and this is uh first or where are we here? Uh, where we're recognizing the members of the Delta Gamma Omega sorority for their tireless contributions and service to our community over the last eight decades. So now, actually, Councilman Scott, you're going to read this one. Yes, sir. You sure are. All right. Here he goes. Sorry. Whereas uh Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, the first Greek letter organization established by African-American women was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC, and since its founding has grown to more than 1,061 chapters and over 355,000 members worldwide. And whereas Alpha Kappa Alpha Sority Incorporated has remained steadfast in its mission to be the service to all mankind through programs that uplift and empower individuals families communities through education, health initiatives, social justice advocacy, economic development, and the support of global communities. And whereas the Delta Gamma Delta Gamma Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was proudly chartered sorry in May 7, 1946 in the city of Corpus Christie, Texas by a group of visionary women committed to continuing the legacy of service and sisterhood throughout the South Texas region. hand. Whereas for 79 years, the members of Delta Gamma Omega chapter faithfully served the Corpus Christi community through impactful programming, civic engagement, youth mentorship, scholarship awards, voter registration drives, and health awareness campaigns as well as community partnerships. And whereas Delta Gamma Omega Chapter is composed of college educated women from diverse professional backgrounds who continue to model leadership, grace, commitment to social change, and who take seriously their responsibility to nurture further generations and advance justice and equity in all areas of society. And whereas it is fitting and proper that the city of Corpus Christi recognize and commend the Delta Gamma Omega chapter of Alpha Cappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated for its outstanding contributions and for being a pillar of strength, wisdom, and service for nearly eight decades. And now therefore, pursuant to the powers vested in me as the mayor of the city of Corpus Christi, I do hereby proclaim May the 7th of 2025 Delta Gamma Omega Charter Day in Corpus Christie, Texas. Congratulations, lady to say a few words. All right. Good morning, everyone. Good morning, Corpus Christi. I'm supposed to fix my hair. Thank you, Gertrude. We just want to thank you for this honor, for this privilege. We want to thank the city of Corpus Christi for trusting us all these years, for trusting us to serve, for trusting to donate money so that we can give away scholarships, for showing up to our programs, just for believing that we do want the best for our fellow man, for our city. And we feel honored to be here. So, thank you. And thank you, Mayor Guardo. Let's have a good Congratulate you on [Music] so proud of y'all. Right. Okay. Come down. the skaters. That's right. How you doing? Okay, our next uh proclamation. Where's Rox? Come on. She didn't have skates. Roxan's right. So, our next proclamation honors the first official high school skate club within the CCISD school district. The students at WB Ray High School have pioneered a new chapter and brought pride to our community. And now we'll read the proclamation that explains more and thank you guys for being here and girls. So whereas the city of Corpus Christi proudly recognizes the formation of the WBay High School skate club, a student-led organization that represents the spirit of innovation, inclusion, and passion among the youth of our community. And whereas this trailblazing skate club is the first in its kind in the Corpus Christie Independent School District, pioneering a new chapter for student organizations that reflect the diverse interests and creative energy of today's young leaders. And whereas the students of the uh Ray High School skate club have demonstrated exceptional ini uh initiative, collaboration, and school pride, fostering a welcoming and empowering space for students to express themselves, build confidence, and promote healthy, active lifestyles. And whereas the club has made a positive impact both on campus and throughout the community, promoting respect, teamwork, and civic engagement and serving as role models to peers through their dedication and their enthusiasm. And whereas the city of Corpus Christi values and supports youth leadership and innovative studentled initiatives that contribute to cultural vibrancy, health, and unity in our city. So now therefore, pursuant to the powers vested in me as the mayor of the city of Corpus Christi, I do hereby proclaim June the 17th of 2025 WB Ray High School skate club day in Corpus Christie Texas. Thank you. Hey guys, did you guys all skateboard up here today? Yeah. When was the last time you guys were on a skateboard? We are going to change that. We're And we're going to get you on one. She has and you and Miss Quavvis right here. Just wanted to thank that. We just wanted to thank the city and we wanted to thank you guys, especially Mr. Adam Rios over here for for really promoting our sport in this town and making sure that skateboard is not a crime anymore. And you guys have been giving us a positive positive place to be Cole Park with some of the things that are going on, some of the new skate clubs. And uh we hope Miss Henosa was the was the founding mother, I guess you would call it, of the skate club. She she's now teaching in Flower Bluff and she's going to be starting the same thing over there. So, we just wanted to thank you guys for inviting us down here. Thank you. We appreciate it. Let's move in. Yeah. Awesome. You have to come. Yes. Oh, I love her. She's Yeah, she's she's good. She's real good. She gave me a dozen eggs. Our next proclamation encourages uh swim, right? Okay. Yeah. Uh let's see. Where am I? It encourages uh swimming education and water safety activities that help keep our community safe around water. So now, Councilman Scott will read the proclamation. All right, let's do this. Whereas National Learn to Swim Day serves as a timely reminder of the importance of water safety and swimming education, especially with our coastal community. And whereas swimming is not only fun and a healthy activity, but also an essential life skill that can help prevent tragedy. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury related dath for children ages 1 to 14. Whereas by raising awareness and encouraging participation in swimming lessons, we can work together to reduce drowning risks and empower children and adults uh with confidence in and around the water. And whereas local resources such as the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department play a vital role in supporting swimming education and providing the community with access to safe supervised environments for learning and recreation. And whereas the city of Corpus Christi encourages families to particip participate in engaging and educational water activities including swimming lessons, recreational pool visits, CPR training, and community events promoting water safety. And now therefore, pursuant to the powers vested in me as the mayor of the city of Corpus Christi, I do hereby proclaim June 26th of 2025, National Learn to Swim Day 2025 in Corpus Christie, Texas. And of course, we encourage all citizens to recognize the importance of swimming education, utilizing local resources, and taking part in water safety activities. Y Thank you, mayor. Uh thank you, Councilman Scott. I just wanted to share last year uh our staff, our aquatics crew did uh 587 uh swim lessons. Uh to date this year, they've done 615 along with our new adaptive swim lesson group that are at 16. So they've done a wonderful job. And then on June 26 is the world world's largest swim lesson. It's going to be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Bill Wade Aquatic Center. It's open to all ages. Councilman. Um uh and and we'll have that swim lesson that day. So, thank you very much for for being here. We have our we have at Billwood Aquatic Center. Uh I'm not going to get in. I'm going to let our our staff introduce themselves. Go ahead. I'm Bonnie Mau. I'm the aquatics program manager for the city of Corpus Christi. I'm Daniellea. I'm one of the area aquatic supervisors. My name is Loose. I'm the other area aquatic supervisor. Lisa Oliver, superintendent, community relations and engagement. Senator Gonzalez, assistant director of parks and recreation. and Jonathan Atwood, interimm assistant director of parks and recreation. Congratulate. Thank you for everything. It is funny how you Thank you. Thank you. Yes. Bring it all in. Okay. Yeah, let's get everybody lined up. Lined up. people in the open waste and recycling. That's wonderful. Awesome. Are we good? Y'all scoot in. Not y'all. Y'all stay this way. Y'all go this way. Right there. Okay. Our final proclamation celebrates the men and women of our solid waste department who provide waste and recycling services year round, working diligently in various weather conditions to ensure uninterrupted service is always delivered. So whereas National Waste and Recycling Workers Week began in 2012 to show appreciation for the local men and women in the garbage, sanitation, and recycling industry in our community. And whereas the city of Corpus Christi sanitation workers demonstrates dedication by consistently providing waste and recycling collection services with only five scheduled holiday shutdowns each year. Wow. These employees work diligently in various weather conditions to ensure uninterrupted service. And whereas sanitation technicians act as a first as first responders during emergency situations including hurricane brush and debris cleanup. And whereas the proper collection and disposal of waste and recyclables are essential for litter litter prevention which helps to discourage illegal dumping and promotes a clean and healthy community. And whereas this year the city of Corpus Christi solid waste department has designated a week to celebrate all the sanitation workers who serve our community. So now therefore, pursuant to the powers vested in me as the mayor of the city of Corpus Christi, I do hereby proclaim June the 16th through the 20th of 2025 National Waste and Recycling Workers Week in Corpus Christi, Texas. And of course, we encourage all citizens to participate and show their appreciation to the local waste and recycling workers in our community. Thank you for everything that you do. who would like to say thanks uh mayor council. It's really great to receive recognition for our team. This is a small sample of the 172 women and men that represent the city that go out every single day and make it happen. Um I'll keep it brief. Won't make everybody introduce themselves, but uh again the team. Yes. Again, you know, again, we appreciate it. We go visit 20,000 homes every single day. Um there's uh 15,000 customers that come through the transfer station every single month. So these men and women, they they make it happen every single day. We appreciate it. Awesome. Thank you.
