[0:08] **Chris Meyer:** Welcome everyone to the regular meeting for the Minneapolis Planning Commission for April 20th. My name is Chris Meyer and I'm the chair of the commission. At this time, I will ask the clerk to call the roll.

[0:30] **Chris Meyer:** Here.
[0:32] **Clerk:** There are five members present. We have a quorum.
[0:34] **Chris Meyer:** I will move to organize or so sorry, first of all, I'll move to adopt the minutes um from April 6th, 2026. Is there a motion to adopt those?
[0:48] **Commissioner Shepherd:** So moved.
[0:50] **Commissioner Garcia:** Second.
[0:52] **Chris Meyer:** Is there any discussion? All right, all in favor say aye.
[0:56] **Commissioners:** Aye.
[0:57] **Chris Meyer:** Opposed? Dissensions? The minutes are adopted. Uh now we'll organize the agenda. Staff is recommending uh that item number four be continued one cycle and that the rest of the items be put on consent. So I'm going to read through the items. If you were here here to speak against the staff recommendation on one of these, raise your hand when I read it. If you wanted to speak in support of the item, you'll have a chance to do that in just a bit.
[1:19] **Chris Meyer:** Um so item number four will continue. Item number five, the street renaming for Cesar Chavez in Ward five. Was there anyone here to speak against the staff recommendation for item five? All right, we'll keep that on consent. Number six, 1914 Washington Avenue North. Was anyone here to speak against the staff recommendation for item number six?
[1:40] **Chris Meyer:** We'll keep that on consent. Item seven, 2212 Jackson Street Northeast. Was anyone here to speak against that? All right, we'll keep seven on the consent agenda. Item number eight, 5600 Chicago Avenue in Ward 11. Was anyone here to speak against item eight?
[2:00] **Chris Meyer:** All right, and item nine, 5001 Irving Avenue North, Ward four. Was anyone here to speak against item number nine? All right, um so to review, we will have item number four as a continuance and then items five through nine on our consent agenda.
[2:18] **Chris Meyer:** Um so I'm going to um do the continuance first. We opened that hearing at the last meeting and we'll keep it open to the next meeting, but if you came here to speak for it, you can. Did anyone want to speak uh to item number four?
[2:36] **Chris Meyer:** All right. Is there a motion to continue uh this to our next meeting, May 4th?
[2:45] **Commissioner Conley:** So moved.
[2:46] **Commissioner Shepherd:** Second.
[2:48] **Chris Meyer:** All right. All in favor say aye.
[2:49] **Commissioners:** Aye.
[2:50] **Chris Meyer:** [clears throat] Opposed? Dissensions? That is continued. I will now open the hearing for our consent agenda. So if you wanted to speak in support of one of the items, now you can. Did anyone want to speak to any of our consent items? All right, not seeing any, so I will close um the hearing. Commissioners, did anyone want to speak to any of our consent items? Um yeah, I will.
[3:11] **Commissioner Garcia:** Um I will speak to item number five. Um I just want to say I appreciate the city's action to move to rename the street um as a person of Latino heritage um growing up, Cesar Chavez was somebody that I heard a lot about and was someone in the community that meant a lot to my family and I, but given everything that has come out about his behavior lately, I think this is the right thing for the city to do and I appreciate everyone for making this effort to rename the street uh without his name.
[3:49] **Chris Meyer:** Thank you, Commissioner Garcia. Anyone else? I guess I'll just add um that that whole affair has made me more hesitant about commemorative street renaming. I know we've done a lot of those. Um but you never know what might be in someone's history, so I'm I'm a little hesitant about um doing more of them.
[4:09] **Chris Meyer:** Um I also don't necessarily think it needs to come to the Planning Commission and I know we've had some some discussion with Public Works about whether it does. I personally think we should change it back to where it used to be, where it just went directly to the council. That's my two cents. Any other thoughts on our consent items? All right, is there a motion to approve the staff recommendations?
[4:31] **Commissioner Chaudry:** So moved.
[4:32] **Chris Meyer:** All right.
[4:33] **Commissioner Garcia:** Second.
[4:34] **Chris Meyer:** All right. All in favor say aye.
[4:35] **Commissioners:** Aye.
[4:37] **Chris Meyer:** Opposed? Dissensions? The consent agenda is adopted and that concludes our business for the day. Uh we do have Committee of the Whole this Thursday. It's the first time in a few months, so remember that.
[4:47] **Chris Meyer:** I did not see an agenda online.
[4:49] **Clerk:** You will be getting an agenda in the morning, I believe. I'll have it posted before noon and then I'll send an email out. Okay, great. But it is a first look at requests that you will be reviewing with the joint click committee on May 7th.
[5:05] **Chris Meyer:** Thank you. And then our next uh full committee is uh May 4th. Any other updates from staff or commissioners? All right, we are adjourned. Thank you, everyone. May meeting might be the big agenda. May—
