It s our first regular meeting of the month of JULY. Um, we have a, uh, very brief agenda tonight that is made up, uh, exclusively of a consent agenda item. Uh, it s nice to see folks from the American Legion here tonight. Uh, it seems like we re hanging around a lot these days. Um, but it s great to see you coming in tonight. I would just say, as on the way up here, uh, Thursday night, uh, a number of us in the council were at the, uh, community center, uh, for the dedication of the woman. [7:11] Mayor: Uh, uh, soldier, uh, monument, which was delayed from Memorial Day. Uh, and it was a really great event. And, uh, I ll just turn it to, to you to talk about that event. And thanks for coming in tonight. Yeah. Good evening, mayor Mike McGuire. City council members. [7:26] Wayne Bierman: Um, and, uh, city Manager Diane. Uh, I m Wayne bierman. I m the immediate past command commander of the Eagan American Legion. Daniel olson, American legion. Daniel Olson was a, uh, we named our Legion after him. [7:44] Wayne Bierman: He was a an Eagan, uh, student who got killed in Iraq in 2011. So we went honor him. Uh, I m currently I m the American Legion vice commander of the American Legion third district. The reason I m here is our commander could make it tonight. I want to thank. First of all, I d like to thank Margo Danner. Tom Mullins, uh, their Eagan citizens instrumental in conceiving the women s, uh, veterans statue for the, uh, Egan Tribute Plaza. I also like to recognize Andrew Pimentel, uh, director of parks, for helping out Jared Fallon, assistant parks and recreation director. Chris Fleck, superintendent of parks. Paul. [8:24] Wayne Bierman: Uh, what, uh, what? Watery, uh, parks. Uh, Park operations supervisor. Elizabeth and, uh, city clerk and countless other city of Eagan personnel who made this installation happen. Uh, the Daniel Olson Egan American Legion has made, uh, women recognizing women veterans one of our priorities. When I took over in AUGUST a number of years ago. That s something I brought up. But we have to really give Margo Danner credit. I had discussed this with her, and she and, uh, Tom Mullen, uh, kind of initiated the statue. So we got to give them credit for getting the female statue at the Tribute Plaza. Uh, we recognize this tribute. Uh, it s been long overdue, and it s. But this is just a start for recognizing women in the military. We hope it s an [9:12] Wayne Bierman: inspiration for young women to have the ability to serve their country and learn new things along the way. And if you d like to see this as the picture, and you know many of you are there, I and I just appreciate that. So the Daniel Olson Lincoln American Legion, thank you for you again for the all your public officials, for all you ve done to make this happen. Thank you. [9:34] Mayor: Thank you. We have such a good group of people and our our city is just so full of people that are willing to help and do things and we did good fundraising. And it s up there now for everybody to go see. Uh, it s a good reminder, Margo. And, um, uh, so, uh, just for folks who might be watching at home, I m not really sure why. Uh, the, uh, the the item that we re going to vote on in the consent is to accept, uh, the donation of the statue, uh, into the city of Eagan. And I just want to thank the Legion and Margo, uh, for all the work that you guys did to make that statue possible. Uh, and to add that to the [10:22] Mayor: tribute Plaza, um, I think, uh, Margo, you re absolutely right. Um, it s a it s a great addition to the plaza. It s a reminder of how generous our community can be. Um, and I was kind of reminded of that. And of your work, uh, when I was walking up to the statue and looked at the pavers, uh, leading the way to the plaza and remembered that, uh, you were also instrumental in the initial, um, plaza designation and donation to the city as well. So, uh, thank you for both occasions. Uh, thanks to the for the Legion. I thought the comments last on Thursday night were really just wonderful. Uh, and enlightening in terms of, uh, the ability of women not only to serve in the military, but to actually be Legion members. And that was kind of eye opening to me. And I m glad that that s a goal that has changed. Uh, and that [11:10] Mayor: the recognition of women in service, uh, is being made. It s long overdue. Uh, but exceedingly appropriate.
