Updated Speaker Selection Process for City Council Meetings

At the city council meetings, items from citizens present gives residents the opportunity to speak on council items not listed on the agenda. Up to three speakers will be heard at each meeting for up to 3 minutes each. Starting on June 1st, the city of Mesa is updating how speakers are selected. Here's how it works. Residents may submit a speaker request form by using a kiosk in the lobby, scanning the posted QR code, or with assistance from staff. All requests must be submitted before the start of the meeting. All submitted names will be entered into a randomized selection process and three speakers will be chosen to speak during items from citizens present. At the start of the council meeting, the city clerk will announce the three speakers. This update is to improve fairness and accessibility by ensuring everyone who signs up has an equal opportunity to be selected regardless of how early they arrive. The city of Mason remains committed to providing a welcoming and accessible environment for all public participation.
