with liy and justice for all thank you all for attending tonight's Planning Commission meeting this commission provides an opportunity for the public participation in the development process throughout the city of Bakersfield the Planning Commission considers a wide variety of projects including subdivision Maps zone changes General plan amendments and much more when applications are received the city planning division analyzes the request planning staff will present the facts about the project along with their recommendation to the Planning Commission who will approve the item or make a recommendation as appropriate Madam clerk next item please presentation thank you Mr Burns please that's not a good start good evening uh Phil Burns devel service director and it's my pleasure tonight to uh provide an individual that's helped the uh city of Bakersfield contribute to orderly development uh Mr Larry Coleman um has was a commissioner with the Planning Commission from August 2017 to December 24th uh at that time I and I had to leave this in here for uh uh you Mr Johnson and his his humor but uh elected city council so that uh stopped his time here at the commission with that I also want to point out a few other things changed over time and uh if you if you look around the Das and I believe there's only one planning commissioner still here from the time that uh uh Mr Coleman started I think it's Mr ker so glad to see that Mr K still here with that um like to really just stop take a minute and um thank Mr Coleman for his time and his uh countless hours of reading all the documents and plans and making the tough decisions that that that this commission takes on that Larry uh have a plaque that like to present to you and it's it's appreciating your outsid and Service uh from your time at the coun at the commission and anyway I present it to you the same time I'd like to give you an opportunity if you like to say a few words oh a chance to talk well you know what do we have enough time tonight I'm not sure cancel your plans yeah well thank you thank you sure we have a photo out in a minute all right good deal that'll be fine my name is Larry Coman I just want to thank you for the recognition I learned a lot from all of you and I really appreciate the time I spent on the planet commission it takes a while to really uh find your your feet on the Planning Commission find out what you're about and so I I I appreciate all the time I've spent here I appreciate staff so much for explaining things in a way that we can understand uh has been very helpful and the city attorney's office you know yeah so um but no this is a real important group here and so uh I think that the work that we do on the planet commission is so vital to the community and we have a lot more to do uh you know we get the general plan yet to do and uh Miss CER is going to finish building the high-speed rail whenever I go out at social events and she's around I tell everybody she's in charge of the highpe [Laughter] rail so uh thank you very much for each each one of you that uh uh that I've got to know Miss Neil and Mr ker um and Miss Carr um you've been very I I learned so much from all of you and uh you know Miss Neil and I maybe were different people but I always value the questions you would ask and I was like man that's a good question I thought of that or you you bring up points that uh I hadn't thought of and I think that's the point of the Planning Commission is that you have you know six or seven different perspectives uh and so you can really get to the heart of a matter and Mr ker uh you know I learned a lot from you uh uh with planning and that kind of thing and uh I now have a better feel for you know walkability which is important to you I know and uh and then of course with that is the the bike ability kind of goes hand in hand almost you know so I've learned from each to you so I really really appreciate the time and the staff again I've learned a lot from you Jenny congratulations on being in charge now without the title and uh and the rest of you that have answered our questions all along so thank you very much and miss yakap petti and miss Solace thank you very [Applause] much again want to get over here yeah you guys are in the back thank you it was only two weeks ago but I need to ask the City attorney uh commissioner comments thaning Mr Coman is it appropriate during commissioner comments or right now um in my opinion you can make some brief comments now I would just advise that we haven't taken public comment yet so if you could keep them short if there's some longer discussion or or comment then the end would be more appropriate Mr Coman are you here till the end of the meeting okay is it now or never all right all right uh well I just wanted to say it was an honor serving with you um I think we were pretty much within a couple months of each other to joining this commission and uh we have seen a lot of perspectives a lot of change um a lot of really good conversations a lot of really hard conversations uh not too many late nights and I just want to say um your passion for the city your passion to listen to others your passion to continually learn to continually grow and to just be a fierce advocate for the things you believe in is really admirable and I just am very excited to see uh how W five benefits from your tenacity and your leadership so thank thank you commissioner Neil oh and then commissioner R okay I just want commission well council member co uh com I just want to say thank you for your time and your service on the commission I really enjoy my time with you we often had a lot of similar viewpoints on things and I felt like as a new commissioner you kind of labored with me when you knew what I was trying to get at but I may not have known what exactly to say or how to present it to um the staff um or to the uh the the applicants so I just want to say thank you for your time and for for just all the energy you put into um me as a commissioner I really appreciate it and good luck I think commissioner Brandt Oliver and then commissioner core so I just want to ditto Daniel your passion's amazing and um I have big shoes to fill and I really am humbled that you chose me I I have a similar passion for our city I hope to gain the knowledge that you have uh learned through the planning process and make as big of an impact as you have so thank you thank you you're going to be great thank you thank you commissioner Brent Oliver commissioner core um I just want to Echo what everyone else said um it was pleasure serving with you on the board uh congratulations on your new position I got to learn a lot from you you guided me in like a lot of different ways uh you told me about new organizations that I can be part of um how I should study the material before I come to the me meeting not just show up but yeah your guidance was very helpful um I just want to say congratulations on your new new adventure thank you very much no pressure yeah I'll say and I just want to say that um you know and coming on and hearing from staff too that you're very thorough and that you met with a lot of the folks you know a lot of the applicants and really got to the bottom of it I really appreciate that as somebody who appreciates a steward of of good governance and and really diving in and and understanding it so thank you very much for your service and commitment to the to the town and uh good luck on on Council congratulations thank you
