One Room Schools in Rosemount
No description available.
Hi, my name is [music] Moren and I am a Rosemount historian. I'm going to tell you about the first one room schools [music] in Rosemount. The 1848 Organic Act of Minnesota specified [music] that land should be set aside for education. During the first few years, classes were held only in the summer as it was too difficult to [music] get to school during the winter months. School District 19 built the first school in the spring [music] of 1858 in Rosemount Township, located east of Dodd Road near what is now [music] 135th Street West. It was a log structure about 14 by 18 ft. Another [music] school built about the same time, also a log structure, was District 92. It was located [music] in the wedge between what is now Dodd Boulevard and 145th Street West. District 19 school [music] registered showed 54 pupils enrolled, only 20 attending with one teacher [music] for grades 1 through 8. In March of 1896, District 19's school building burnt [music] down. This pushed the decision to change school sites, merging districts [music] 19 and92, and they built the first two-story brick building in Rosemont [music] Village. What happens today is tomorrow's history. >> [music]
