[Music] hi my name is Deon Haider I'm the recreation program supervisor here at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center when I started here I was really interested in some additions we could make to the space to encourage more dramatic play and interaction with some of our outdoor spaces at one point she said John uh I think it might be nice to have a what I like is a camping except for the kids for kids to play with Bo all right and some time went by and then I'm going to get a tent I think we can start with a tent this is sometimes the first time a child's been in a tent so making it a reality that they can actually go out and do this um in their own life and making it affordable ways and just making sure everyone knows of any background or age that they can go camping and I got some camping gear kids camping gear lanterns um play food uh things like that and we got a plastic campfire that flickers but it also plays evening nighttime insect sounds so I made a tripod to go over it with the pan so they could cook the food things like that I've been camping since I was little so it's a huge passion of mine um I've heard Sil report that that kids come in and they make a be line right to the camping thing the parents seem to get a kick out of it too you know that the kids are having such a good time the ultimate goal is if these kids like the camping thing they're going to bug their parents and take them out camping okay and they can experience the real thing okay so um and that that's the best teacher of all is to be right out seeing the wonders of it and having fun but you're also learning
