Hello and welcome to the political forum for the position of city council district 8. This political forum is brought to you in conjunction with Loreto TV, the public access channel and the city of Loreto Public Information Office. This political forum presents an opportunity for the viewing public to get to know the candidates who are running for office fairly and objectively. My name is Norron. I'm the public information manager for the city of Loreto and I have the honor of being the moderator for tonight's forum that focuses on the candidates who are seeking to be the next council member for district 8. For this forum, all candidates received an email from the city of Loreto Public Information Office outlining the forum rules. One of the key requirements was attendance at a mandatory meeting uh preforum meeting which took place on September 30th. Only candidates who attended this meeting were eligible to participate in tonight's forum. Allow me to introduce the candidates for this evening. We have Sergio Dorantes and Miss Luxandra Guerra. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you. Now the speaking order is based on a drawing conducted at that mandatory orientation meeting for the candidates that was held previous to these to this forum. At this time, I'd like to quickly go over some of the ground rules so that those who are watching at home and also here live on our audience can be aware of our format. Our panelist and I will ask a total question of four questions to each candidate. There will be one question asked per round. So we will have a total of four rounds for this political forum. Now each candidate will have two minutes to answer each question. If you ignore the time constrains candidates, you will be notified that your time is up and at that point with the bell and at that point the candidates microphone um will either be muted but we will allow you to um finish up your sentences. Um this will allow minimal interruptions. Now during the course of our political forum candidates uh might want to shed some light or offer an explanation to a previous comment or a previous question. Since we do not allow additional time for rebutles, then candidates can choose to use their time to address previous comments stated within the time allotted. Now for this reason we ask you to be mindful of course of your time. This time will begin as soon as the candidates start speaking after hearing each question. If a candidate forgets the question, you can ask the question to be repeated at any time or we can also translate the question in Spanish too. I want to bys that diverse as drug use up to wasteful tax payers money. I want to increase the police presence with our district to return our streets to safe to state of safety. Also one the main concern we have here right now is the fental drug related death within our district in the city of Loredo. We must urgently sit down together with heads of local law enforcement together with local law enforcements our district attorneys office state and federal agencies to include rehabilitation entities like scanner pillar to formulate more effective methods of poli and combating on our streets. Ladriera are we don't have anything for the children there. Our park is it's waste of money there because we don't have anything for kids to play in that area. Um I want to uh fix the potoles in our area and um put more lighting. La comunidad sí nos mandó también preguntas para los candidatos y las preguntas número tres y número cuatro van a ser de la comunidad. La primera que le voy a preguntar, se la voy a preguntar a usted primero al candidato Sergio Durantes. La primera dice, "¿Qué haría para enfrentar las necesidades de infraestructura en la ciudad y la pavimentación de las calles?" Como les repito, hay que si hay si necesitan las calles principales, hay que pavimentarlas. Hay gente que necesita, le da a gente se metan en su carrito que están inválidos, no han podido. Hay una señora que me dice, "Oiga, tengo 32 años aquí viviendo nuestro pavimento." Pero aquel sí, mire, aquel sí. ¿Por qué? porque es comadre o compadre del del candidato. No puede ser posible eso. No es eso es mi idea, ayudar a la gente. Lo más necesitado, lo necesitan ahorita, ¿no? El rico lo necesita el pobre, ¿eh? Porque mucha gente votan y ah, aparte hay, les digo que no voten, que salgan a votar solitos porque los borregos mandan la suban, pongo, voy por ustedes, voy a votar. Ahí va por ellos, por eso está la ciudad como está. Yo se lo digo por experiencia como tengo 32 años en la política. 32 años no es porque yo hable acá desde las ven ahí está gente, hermano. Ahí está. No puede ser posible por ellos, por eso está la candidatos. No ha visto un candidato que esté pobre, puro de dinero. ¿Por qué? Porque hay mucha corrupción. Y yo lo he visto, no me lo cuentan a mí. Eso es lo que les puedo decir, que si me dijen, adelante. La idea es de sacar a Melisa Cigarroa porque no tuvo el descaro de venir aquí. Aquí debía decirle a la gente, mire lo que hice yo, eh, ese es el descaro, porque sabe que no ha hecho nada. Y si quiere votar la gente, que no se esté quejando la gente. Oiga, que quién sabe qué. I know in a lot of areas they uh there's a lot of pot holes um that haven't been fixed. Um we can use that money towards that. And of course there's federal grants that we can apply for and have those grants uh apply for those grants to fix our our streets. And um on the traffic uh like I said we need to uh get more uh police uh h more police officers in helping and um applying more uh doing some a survey around the uh the district 8 to see where we need more traffic lights and and stuff like that that we need for the for our district to be more safe. But definitely uh work on federal grants and use the discretionary funds that that the city gets for every city council member. Thank you so much candidate we had mentioned that the next question and the final question will be also from the community so I'm going to ask it to candidate once again. How will you make yourself accessible community to listen to constitu concerns like Mr. said we need to have an office in place where people can reach out to us. Um I know there's um I know there's allowance fee that city council members get. we need to have an office available where um we can be reached that um also our cell phones uh make them available have a secretary available that um can uh relate all the message that the constituents have of district gate and uh email um but mostly mainly have an office available so they can reach out to us in our office for any issues that they have with thank you guerra le voy a hacer La misma pregunta a a usted, candidato a Mr. Dorantes, eh, ¿cuál es su plan para mejorar la comunicación con los residentes? ¿Estaría usted accesible a la comunidad? Hagan de cuenta que estamos en el oeste, como le repito, puro bar, de veras, no hay seguridad, usted sale, me van a robar. No, no es porque estén los oficiales aquí, ellos no tienen la culpa. Y se lo voy a platicar yo, como ahí estaban los borrachitos, digo, abusado, hermano, baja la cerveza porque ahí viene la policía. Los dieron permiso los policías. Así me dijeron, señorita. No puede ser posible que los mismos policías les den, les presten servir que acá aquí puedes pistear. En serio, no se lo digo porque quiero Ahí estaba ya persona. Ahora sí limpió como le repito, limpió todo. No puede ser posible. Esa es mi idea, ayudar a la gente pobre, a las comunidades que están más catarranas. Aquí hay mucho vario que necesitan de veras. Es un lástima Laredo en San Antonio. Ví a un comisionado, un Priscinto, le dan 50,000. Aquí le están dando un millón y medio. ¿Qué hace con el millón y medio? No sabe como me dice cigarró, voy a voy a donar el 100% de su sueldo. Aquí son $52,000 que les dan a los a los regidores, a los precintos. Ya se aumentaron el sueldo porque son eran 50, era 52. El mayor lleva gana 93,000. Pero no le preguntaron a los ciudadanos, oiga, ¿podemos subir los? No, suben los impuestos. No, cierto. The way things stand today if you live in district gate currently being represented by a person who never grew up here and who in the past years has not shown any indication of improving our quality of life. I'm frustrated to see that our roads and streets within our neighborhoods have gone with little to no main and still full of pothols or even surfaces. It breaks my heart to see that elderly population and place like the Helmton senior home which is maintained by the city complain of broken air conditioners, bedbuck infestations, and lack of security personnel within their building because they fear their drug users and the unpredic homeless population that lie only feet from their door outside. I guarantee you I am the change we desperately seek and I will be the change that we deserve. I want to deliver results that we can feel. Please vote this coming election. Thank you.
