City Council Recap: March 17, 2026

Hey everyone, it's Logan here with a lowdown from this week's city council meeting. We've got a few exciting things to talk about and so we'll dive right in. The city engaged two firms to assist us with taking the next steps forward on the city council's bold vision to invest more deeply in our parks, our trails, our open spaces, and our athletic amenity offerings here in the community. First, the city council entered into a consulting contract with an engineering and architectural design firm to design a full-size baseball field for the Umar Park field complex. This means a fully fenced in field with dugouts, a grass infield, and a up to 380 ft center field line. This field would fill a missing link in our current field offerings in the city of Rosemount. Next, the city council did engage an architect and a design consultant to take the next steps forward on the pursuit of a potential indoor ice amenity here in the city of Rosemount. What this allows us to do is to continue that conversation with our stakeholders to pursue and bring a design into final construction documents to ultimately allow us to acquire land and acquire bid pricing to know exactly what a financial impact would look like to our taxpayers here in the city of Rosemount. We're really excited about these two projects and they fall into a much longer list of the city council's vision of how we could reinvest in our parks, trails, open spaces. This is a phased plan and a phased approach that's going to take many years to roll out all the things in the city council's bold vision for the future. And then lastly, just a fun one coming out of our planning commission also from this week. Planning commission gave final approval to the Copperfield, which is a restaurant currently operating in the city of Modota Heights that looks to develop a full service restaurant here in the city of Rosemount. This will be placed on a parcel right between the Sweet Needs Bakery and First Aid Bank and the O2B Kids Childcare Facility. Again, this is one step in the development process. We look forward to an upcoming application for an actual construction work, but we're going to fingers crossed that we're really excited to see Copperfield coming into the city of Rosemont in the very near term. So, that's it from this week's city council meeting. As always, check out the fulllength videos online and we will talk with you next time.
