Get alerts through a weather app on your phone or a NOAA weather radio so you know when conditions change. Next, have a plan on where to go. The safest place during severe weather is a basement or the lowest level of your home away from windows. If you don't have a basement, move to a small interior room like a bathroom or closet. Be ready for power outages and have a safety kit ready. Flashlights, phone chargers, shoes, and leashes or carriers for your pets. And when a warning is issued, don't wait.
