How Rosemount Got Its Name
No description available.
Hi, I'm Moren. I wrote the book on Rosemount's history. And today, I'm going to tell you about how Rosemount got its name and its first post office. As early as 1855, before Minnesota became a state, Andrew Keegan, a surveyor, was appointed the first postmaster of Township 115. He named the post office Rosemount after a village in Ireland he was familiar with. When he was out surveying, he would unofficially deliver the mail in the direction he was going and was known to carry the mail in his hat and his britches. This service preceded rule-free mail delivery by decades. That's how Rosemount got its name and its first post office.
