Rosemount Naval Station?!

No description available.

Hi, my name is Moren [music] and I am a Rosemount historian. Did you know that Rosemount had a naval station? In 1962, [music] the US Navy leased 18 acres of land from the [music] University of Minnesota for an aeronautics group satellite injection facility. The milliondoll Naval [music] Computer Transmitter Center thousands of miles from any ocean would be fed information to navigation satellites orbiting the Earth. so that commercial [music] and military ships all around the world could determine their exact position at any time in any weather [music] 7 days a week. The tower and antennas towered 109 ft above the ground and [music] were 60 ft in diameter. Detachment Bravo facility had an operating crew [music] of over 60 personnel. Due to advanced satellite technology [music] and the full implication of the GPS, the satellite system detachment Bravo conducted [music] its last satellite operation on December 31st, 1996. All of the buildings were raised in [music] 2010. What happens today is tomorrow's history. >> [music]
