we have come together to celebrate our new and returning council people today in planning this event we prioritize the health and safety of everyone here at city hall and our community especially our vulnerable neighbors the pandemic turned the world upside down two years ago the stress exhaust and grief caused by all the disruptions social isolation has tested everyone's patience and coping skills that said i could not be more prouder of how city staff stepped up to comply with the crisis and restrictions over the past two years to maintain the highest level of service for our residents it also would not have been possible without the steady support of city council during the past two years thank you despite the challenges i think the way the city responded to the crisis has only strengthened the city's sense of community that is a significant achievement during the time of people and uncertainty this experience will serve us as we navigate the start of 2022. i am looking forward to working with council to make independence an even better place to live work and raise a family i know the best is yet to come for a pets now let's begin with the swearing and hold that call [Music] okay david there we go you've done this a few times number 10. well that's all that's as successful as the previous map hi david do you solely swear do somebody swear that i will support the constitution laws of the united states i will support constitutions in the laws of the united states the constitutional laws the constitutional laws and the state of the life of the state of iowa and refreshingly discharge my duties discharge my duties as vice mayor of the city as vice during my term and continuous during my turn and 15 years at all so help me get it so help me again now it's your turn uh we'll do it individually we're going to do each council person individual i think that honors each one for their accomplishments and getting elected service so instead of doing a group like they've done i think in the past we're going to have each council person come up and i will swear then so it's a great honor i've i've worked with everyone john i even coached on a basketball years ago question is how was it dave he was one of the best uh it's accomplishment that you know not too many independence and athletes could say so as a freshman team of course of course it helps have mr zuber on the team too it was very good but uh yeah so it's a pleasure to for me to introduce everybody and it's great to see anthony back i've had a very you know four wonderful years vice mayor under anthony i've had two great years uh under greg also i admire the men that i've worked with going back to fred ramos and greg and anthony we are very blessed in this community that we have the honorable you know men that have served in that position so yeah i think if you can give a round of applause the baby of the organization [Music] i will support the constitution discharge my duties discharged as council person of the city of the defense so help me god foreign [Music] that will support the constitutional laws that constitutional laws of the united states of the united states the honestly discharge my duties discharge my babies as council person as counselors of the cities in the peninsula my term during my turn and continues to set office in continuing since that officer it's an interesting distribution my name is the third person getting sworn in the last name starts with the t yep uh this is uh jim and jim has had he's been sworn in at uh the state the highest level of the state and then silver we're pleased to have jim's knowledge of the state government how things work has helped the city on a number of asians so it's good you blend the people that we have that everybody has their own separate expertise of interest and it melts together to form a really decent council along with the guidance of administration um i i james peter traitors do soundly swear do public lands and buildings uh chairmanship that he has and has done a great job i know that uh uh you know it's nice blood having different ages here john maybe youngest and uh christine i think you know you've been replacing the secondary it's good to have parents grandparents oh my goodness the last person very good and laws of the united states laws of the united states the constitution and laws constitutional laws on the scene of ohio and that i will faithfully and faithfully honestly and honestly and partially and partially discharge my duties congratulations so the constitutional
