Council member Hancock, Council Member Trinsky >> here, >> Council Member Cass, Council Member Lawson, Council Member Medina >> here, >> Council Member Mario >> present, >> Mayor Pro Tim Sunberg >> here. Okay, there there is no mayor updates. Um, are there any issue updates? Seeing none, is there any objection to move the consent calendar forward? Item number uh 2A through 2E. Seeing none, the consent calendar will move forward. Item number 2A through 2E. Uh item number 3A, uh Central Community Park master plan, uh resolution. Uh Nicole So, um, tonight I'll actually pre be presenting for pros tonight. Um, and so my name is Trent Woolly and I'm a senior landscape architect with the pros department. Uh Nicole is on the meeting with us as well as Brian Green uh from the pros department. Um so our approval process is taken directly out of the pros dedication development criteria manual. We have a set of nine points that we have to meet. Uh we feel that we've met and uh that we've uh approved all these uh specific attributes. Central Community Park is located in Ward 5 and it's just off of South Tower Road and Telluride Street. As everyone probably knows, it is a piece and parcel of the Central Rec Center. The park will be surrounding the rec center and it's approximately a 12 acre park site. Uh just to note that we are partnering with Aurora Water uh because of the aspect of that pond that you can see in that image there. that pond will be removed as part of this project and again our partner with Aurora Water they are directing that piece. Uh all of our master plans go through a public process. Uh for this particular project we went through three public meetings. Uh we averaged 36 citizens in person participate participating. Um, after each uh public meeting, we also held a postmeating survey and we averaged 57 responses to those surveys. Those surveys just are follow-up questions about what was presented at those public meetings. After the third public meeting, our consultant put together this preliminary master plan, which is what we're presenting tonight. And uh, basically, we break it down into three areas. on the left hand side of the screen. That's the wetland area. That's where that pond is currently and it will be removed. We have the central area that we call the playground area and then the area to the east which we call the court area. In the wetland area, we have West Tgate Creek that comes in from the south. We have Noame Creek that comes in from the east. Uh we are going to have a more naturalized channel in this area with several micro pools. Uh we'll have some walking trails. We also will have a couple of pedestrian bridges uh to help uh keep up with the uh flow of traffic through this area on the trails. We will also have a low water crossing and a small shelter in this area. We are also making allowances for an art piece that uh we are currently showing in this area and we are working with art and public places on that particular aspect. Um on the left hand side of this image we have a large open uh play area. This will be just general play. It's not a programmed field of any type. Uh we're still debating internally if that's going to be synthetic turf or if that's going to be bluegrass turf. Um and then just to the right of that we have a playground area. We'll have age separated events. We also have a large play I'm sorry a large pavilion with picnic tables underneath. We'll have a bouldering area and then we will have a flush restroom. And then over to the left of the site we have the court area. We'll have two basketball courts, two tennis courts, and four pickle ball courts. And then we'll also have three associated shelters with benches and picnic tables for people who are waiting for the next game. These are just some quick images that our consultant has put together. Uh just some bird's eye type view of what this site might look like in the future. and our approval process. We started in May the 5th, I'm sorry, March the 5th. Uh we met with the parks and recreation advisory board. We um had a public hearing as well as they issued a positive advisory opinion on on this project. Uh we next then moved to the planning and zoning commission study session and that was on March the 12th. Uh they also issued a positive advisory opinion and then at the end of March on the 27th we met with the PFQL policy committee. Uh we received approval for city council consideration and then on July the 9th we held another public hearing with the planning and zoning commission and that was again approved to move forward. And of course, here we sit tonight at the study session. And uh hopefully the consideration is to move this on to regular council. And if that is approved tonight, we'll move on uh for the 11th regular agenda. >> Okay. Uh questions or comments? >> Uh mayor. >> Uh let's see. Uh I'm sorry. Um Council Member Lawson, then Mayor Pro, then Mayor Prom. >> Oh, I think Mayor Prom Sunberg was first. Go ahead. >> Okay. Uh Mayor Prom. >> Oh, thanks. So, this does away with the water lagoon type uh body of water that's there now. >> Yes, that is correct. That pond serves as an irrigation source only at this particular point in time. >> Is that expected to save water according to our water department? >> I'm Yes. Currently, it basically irrigates the channel, Hutcherson Channel that kind of runs to the north northwest from there and to the south and the majority of that channel is being converted from bluegrass turf into native turf or native seeds. Thank you, >> Council Lawson. >> Yeah, thank you, Trent. And I really do I'm excited about these upgrades. Um the question I have is when there was um I was asked from Nicole and Laura about some of my thoughts about having the I wanted to see if you guys I don't see it in this presentation. It was going to be the climbing wall. Is that not going to happen? Because I wanted something a little different for the kids and for people like the little climbing wall and that's something different that we don't have. I don't see it on this presentation. And if we don't have it, then why was I told that we might have it? What what what was the issue with >> I'll I'll clarify that. And that's that's me probably rushing through the presentation, so I apologize. Uh at the playground area, we have a an older group area and then we have a younger group area. Those two areas will be separated by a um a climbing wall just like you described it. Um and it's it will be a safe height. Of course, we'll have safety zones, but it will be designed so that the kids can play all over and on top of that wall uh transition between the two areas. So, I apologize for not making that clear on the presentation. >> Okay. Thank you. Because I was very excited about that and because it was something different and when I didn't see it, I thought I just wanted to know why it was going to be eliminated. But thank you for the clarification. >> Thank you. >> Further questions or comments? Is there any objection uh to moving the master plan forward? Uh seeing none uh then I will move forward. Thank you. Um thank you very much. Um with that um I believe uh Katie we will uh be in a listening session at six o'clock. Am I correct? >> Yes. >> Yeah. And on the council meeting uh invite for the six o'clock member council members not this one. So you know we we're all log off and then log back on to the the city council. >> Okay. Very well. I'll see you over the the city one. Thank [Music] [Music]
